Andrew Western MP for Stretford and Urmston
Last Wednesday, I attended an Alzheimer’s Research UK event in Parliament where I had an opportunity to learn more about the work being done in Britain to tackle this devastating illness.
Dementia is one of the biggest health and care challenges of our time – and I sympathise profoundly with anyone who is affected by this heart-breaking condition.
We need to keep a political spotlight on it and its impacts on sufferers and their loved ones is crucial to developing treatments and a cure.
Our ultimate goal must be to prevent, treat and cure this terrible disease – and I am proud that Labour pledged to invest in science and research across the public and private sectors to put Britain at the forefront of treatment for dementia.
Labour has long-term plans for a world-class National Care Service that makes people as proud as the NHS does: improving quality and standards, and transforming access to make sure everyone who needs care and support can get it when and where they need it.
