I was delighted to attend an event in Parliament hosted by Guide Dogs, and pledge my continued support for their wonderful work across the UK.

The work that Guide Dogs For the Blind does for people with visual impairment is nothing short of amazing – with the service animals they train up doing immeasurable amounts of good for those with sight loss.

Receiving a guide dog can be life changing for someone with sight loss – as it provides them with the ability to live their lives independently.

It was also wonderful to meet a Guide Dog puppy who will one day help one of the two million men, women, and children in Britain with sight loss.

The event highlighted the problems people with sight loss experience in their day to day lives with regard to pavement parking. It was interesting to hear about the unique challenges this poses to those who rely on sticks or guide dogs to get around.

Indeed, I am contacted a lot about this issue in Stretford & Urmston by wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs and I have made representations to both the previous and the current government passing on the concerns raised

The Government is currently considering the results of a consultation on pavement parking – and the huge number of submissions shows the strength of feeling about this issue

And various measures are now being considered as part of the consultation – including beefing up council powers and a nationwide ban.
