William Wroe Golf Course

When I was Council Leader, I campaigned hard with the local community to protect the William Wroe Golf Course from development.

Trafford Labour Group has continued this work and so I am delighted that the Council’s application to give the site Fields In Trust protected status has been approved.

The legal Deed of Dedication has been signed, which means that this cherished green space will be protected for the community to enjoy forever.

Trafford Councillors, officers and the Flixton Green for All group will soon be launching a competition to officially rename the site. Details will be available on the Flixton Green for All Facebook page and their website: Flixton Green for All | Environment

The competition is set to take place during September and October,  and will be followed by the unveiling of a sign to mark and celebrate the site’s protection with the wording “Protected Forever with Fields in Trust – Green Spaces for Good” ahead of the October half-term holidays. Additional signs featuring the new name will also be installed.

Nationally, Labour has an ambitious plan to turn the page on the Conservative’s appalling 14 year record on our natural environment and green spaces. We will increase access to nature with new forests and river walks, plant millions of trees and launch a new community right to buy scheme so that residents can breathe new life into derelict land and create more parks and green spaces. I look forward to supporting the Government in delivering our plans for nature and taking biodiversity off life support over the next Parliament.
