Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, visited St Ann’s RC Primary School, to tour the school’s new site.

Construction is now underway on the new two-form entry school, with a planned pupil capacity of 445. This will include 26 nursey places and space for 65 SEN pupils.

Commissioned by the Department of Education, St Ann’s R.C. Primary School is the first Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO) school to be constructed in the North West.

The new two-storey school is being constructed between two existing school buildings.

Andrew Western, MP for Stretford and Urmston, said: “It was great to see new building methods in action at St Ann’s. I also heard about the apprentices that are working on the site – it’s great to hear that young people are being given the opportunity to work on this exciting new project.

“I have no doubt that the new building will look fabulous and that it will serve the local community for many years to come. I’m looking forward to visiting again when the work is complete.”

The St Ann’s RC Primary School project is split over two phases. The first covers construction of the new building, whilst phase two is dedicated to demolition of the pre-existing school and to building new hard and soft play areas – including a MUGA.

The work is expected to be completed in around 12 weeks’ time.
