Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, recently visited The OT Creative Space. He was invited to discuss how the CIC plans to use its £2129.16 grant from The Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund.

During the visit, Andrew was joined by Liz Patel – Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration – and Eleanor Burr, from The Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund. The group were given a guided tour of The OT Creative Space, by Project Director and Studio Manager – Lynda Sterling.

The OT Creative Space has a back gallery area, situated directly behind the building, as well as other alleyways nearby. These areas are used to display art.

Previously, this part of Old Trafford attracted a lot of antisocial behaviour and fly tipping. However, over the past six years, The OT Creative Space has worked to improve the physical areas, by planting flowers, displaying artwork and upcycling materials. The group also holds monthly art clubs for local residents, as well as neighbourhood get togethers.

Lynda explained how The OT Creative Space planned to use its £2129.16 grant to buy equipment for its outdoor art workshop. This will include a gazebo, reusable brushes, gelli printing blocks, troughs and trellis for gardening workshops. Clean up equipment, such as brushes, leaf blower and trowels, will also be purchased.

Andrew Western, MP for Stretford and Urmston, said: “The OT Creative Space is doing some fabulous work within community of Old Trafford. It was great to tour the studio and the surrounding alleyways, and to hear, first-hand, how the group plans to spend the money it recently received from The Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund.

“The OT Creative Space is a great example of how the community can come together to improve their local area. It’s a great initiative and this funding will help the team to take their project to the next level.

“Art is something that should be enjoyed by everybody and The OT Creative Space is making it happen in Old Trafford.”

The Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund is a £100,000 funding pot that support neighbourhood and community projects throughout the area. Groups within a 10-mile radius of Manchester Airport can apply. Click here to find out more.
