Andrew - marking World Book Day.

Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, is helping to spread the joy of reading, by marking World Book Day 2024.

World Book Day’s mission is to promote reading for pleasure. The aim is to create opportunities for more children, from all backgrounds, to experience choosing and owning a book.

The World Book Day team is working alongside partners, including the National Literacy
Trust, BookTrust, McDonald’s Happy Meals, publishers and booksellers to reach more communities, families and children. They are distributing as many £1/€1.50 book tokens as possible.

Andrew Western said: “According to the National Literacy Trust, reading for pleasure is at its lowest since 2005 and up to one million kids in the UK don’t own a book. That’s why initiatives like World Book Day are so important, as it highlights the importance of reading and the joy that it can bring.

“I know that lots of people in Stretford and Urmston will be marking World Book Day. If you’re one of them, then I hope you’re enjoying celebrating your favourite book.”
