Recently, Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, has received a surge in people contacting him to complain that they are not able to access cash from free ATMs. This issue has been particularly impacting Old Trafford residents.

Andrew knows that cash is still a lifeline to many, so he decided to press the Government for answers in the Chamber.

He said: “In an increasingly cashless society, access to cash from free-to-use ATMs is increasingly scare. That is a particular issue in Old Trafford, in my constituency, where the main shopping parade on Ayres Road has no cash machine at all.”

As technology means we are increasingly cashless, Andrew went on to ask how the Government will ensure that people can continue to access their hard-earned money for free in their local communities.

Penny Mordaunt, Tory MP and Leader of the House Of Commons replied. She said: “The Government have issued the sector with guidance and expectations about making free-to-access cash machines available. That is monitored and mapped, and I will ensure that the relevant Secretaries of State in both Departments have heard what (you have) said.”
