The NHS turns 75 today and Andrew Western has marked the occasion, by visiting Trafford General Hospital. He took Wes Streeting, the Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, to the birthplace of the NHS, to discuss Labour’s plans for the National Health Service.

On 5 July, 1948, Nye Bevan visited Trafford Hospital (which is now known as Trafford General Hospital) to announce the creation of the National Health Service.

75 years on, Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, visited the site, along with Wes Streeting, the Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, to mark the event.

Andrew Western said: “Our amazing health service is floundering under this Tory Government and the NHS is currently short of more than 150,000 staff. Labour plans to train the doctors and nurses that the NHS needs, so that our health service can thrive once again.”

Before the visit to Trafford General Hospital, Andrew and Wes went to the NHS Birthday Party in the Park festival. This event was organised by Trafford Councillor Joanne Harding.
