Andrew recently visited Essity, a hygiene and heath-product manufacturer, with a site in Trafford Park. He met them to discuss NHS procurement and top tour the manufacturing operation in Trafford Park.

Essity is a health and hygiene business, that employs around 1600 people across the UK. On the Trafford Park site, Essity produces millions of rolls of Cushelle toilet tissue and Plenty kitchen towel. The company recently completed a major investment at the site, to expand capacity.

Andrew met with the Essity team to discuss a matter impacting the company’s health and medical solutions business. They discussed value-based procurement and how the NHS currently buys its continence products.

On the back of the meeting, Andrew has agreed to write to Lord Markham, in the Department of Health and Social Care, to raise Essity’s concerns about the current purchasing procedures. He’s also agreed to table a parliamentary question about NHS procurement.

After the meeting, Andrew was given a tour of the Trafford Park site.

Andrew Western said: “I visited Essity in Trafford Park, who make a range of health and hygiene products. It was great to have a tour of the manufacturing line and to see how toilet roll and kitchen roll is produced.
“As becomes clearer to me every time I visit, there is very little you can’t find being made in Trafford Park!”
