Earlier today, Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, attended an event in Parliament, hosted by the advocacy group Hope not Hate.
During the event, Hope not Hate presented its ‘State of HATE’ report, looking at far-right extremism in Britain today. A team of experts also spoke about the situation on the ground within communities and how we can respond together, to the threat of far-right extremism.
Andrew Western said: “Hope not Hate do superb work in our communities and sadly, they were active in Trafford at this year’s local elections – due to the presence of a Britain First candidate in the Broadheath Ward.
“Nationally, far right anti-migrant and anti-LGBT activism is on the rise. We must continue to be vigilant in tackling the politics of hate. It was great to meet Hope not Hate to talk about this in Parliament.”
In the last few months, Hope not Hate says there’s been a surge in street protests organised, or motivated, by far-right activists. The advocacy group has been following protests, monitoring far-right activists and supporting communities to respond with a message of hope.
