ESB Energy invited Andrew Western – the MP for Stretford and Urmston – to its Carrington Power Station site. The meeting was to discuss ESB Energy’s net-zero plans and its hopes of becoming the UK’s next big green energy supplier.

As part of this quest, ESB Energy is investing in new green energy solutions, as well as developing new systems, services, and products. It wants to help its residential-supply customers to make an affordable transition into net-zero living.

The term ‘net zero’ refers to the way that greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere, are balanced by those being removed out of the atmosphere.

Andrew Western said: “It was great to visit Carrington Power Station. I had a tour of the site and we discussed their work and their approach to sustainability – the company is working towards a deliver net-zero future.

“During the visit, we also talked about employment opportunities at the site.”

Carrington Power Station opened in 2017 and it now powers more than 1 million homes and businesses in the Greater Manchester area. The gas-fired power station has the ability to allow renewables like wind and solar on its system at any given time.

Power stations like Carrington complement low-carbon wind and solar renewable energy, by providing reliable electricity all year round, whatever the weather or time of day.
