Andrew and headteacher Mrs Bates - at Gorse Hill Primary School,
During a visit to Gorse Hill Primary School in Stretford, local MP Andrew Western met primary school children that were keen to discuss some important issues.
Andrew Western said: “The pupils were very inquisitive, with Year 3 asking me all about how our rubbish is processed – and promising to write to me about how supermarkets can play a better part in our recycling efforts. The School Council also gave me a grilling, on everything from International Aid, to Dog Fouling! It was fantastic to see such enthusiastic learners, and in particular to hear about their passion for the environment.
“Lots of other children were very keen to show me their skills too. Highlights included hearing Year 1 pupils counting in French and Year 3, who performed a poem about cleaning the oceans.”
The Stretford and Urmston MP also commented on other aspects of the school. He was especially impressed by the provisions that the school has in place to support pupils, parents and carers.
He said:” I was very impressed with the support the school provides to families. There are before-and-after-school clubs and lots of different support services are being offered to children and parents.
“As so many services have eroded, schools are having to expand their role. Mrs Bates and her team at Gorse Hill have done a fantastic job in nurturing their families as well as educating them. It’s a privilege to have such excellent schools in my constituency.”
