Earlier this month, due to the appalling service provided by TransPennine Express, Andrew Western asked his constituents to share their experiences.

TransPennine Express run the service through Urmston, so thousands of local residents have no choice but to use the service.

The results from the survey were clear; 88% said the service was ‘very poor’, with many users saying they had lost, or had to change jobs due to the unpredictability of the service. Others said they were moving house to be able to access better services and some said they had to travel a day earlier, incurring hotel costs and losing out on time with their families, in order to get to work on time.

Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, said: “This is just not good enough. Despite consistent evidence showing there’s been a lack of progress, just yesterday, the Prime Minister said that a new train service contract was being worked on.

“I have created a petition that I will present to the House of Commons and I am pushing for a debate on the future of Transpennine.”
