It’s Children’s Mental Health Week, and the theme this year is ‘Let’s Connect’. Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, is supporting the scheme.
Children’s mental health has been in crisis for several years, and the Covid-19 pandemic and current cost-of-living crisis have made things much worse.
Currently, the NHS estimates that one in six children has a mental health condition, and waiting times for specialist support can be up to two years. However, the Tories has shelved its Mental Health White Paper.
The Labour Party will make Britain the best place to grow up, prioritising children’s wellbeing, education and life choices. The Party has also pledged to give resources to schools to employ mental health specialists, to fund activities to enrich children’s lives.
Extra support will also be given to children who need it through enhanced pupil premiums and extending free school meals throughout the holidays.
