This week, Andrew attended to an open day at the Greater Manchester Youth Federation’s youth centre in Partington.

The Greater Manchester Youth Federation is renting the building on Moss Lane Road, from Trafford Council for a minimal fee. However, the charity recently spent £500,000 on the large-scale interior work, to create a new youth facility that has a dance area, a creative space, a digital suite, a homework room, a chill-out zone and a Duke of Edinburgh preparation room.

Andrew Western said: “The youth centre was established when I was Leader of Trafford Council, after the Labour administration agreed to lease the site to the Greater Manchester Youth Federation, so I was absolutely delighted to see the centre up and running.

“It’s an impressive facility that is supporting hundreds of local children every week. The open day offered a fabulous insight into the work they are doing and the Greater Manchester Youth Federation’s future plans, so I was delighted to be able to attend.”

The Greater Manchester Youth Federation aims to deliver a year-round programme of recreational and educational opportunities for young people, volunteers, and leaders. The charity works with affiliated voluntary youth groups and projects in Greater Manchester, to provide training and support.

The open day was well attended. Andy Burnham – the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Tom Ross – the leader of Trafford Council, and Sarah Owen – MP for Luton North, were also in attendance.
